Educational Philosophy

The spirit of the establishment of Japanese Red Cross Toyota College of Nursing is based on the fundamental principles of the Red Cross, especially humanity. The graduate school inherited the spirit of the establishment. Based on the principle of humanity, which is to prevent and alleviate the pain of people under any circumstance, the school aims to cultivate a rich humanity of students and nurture nurses who are willing to help people who are suffering. In addition, the nurses should have a deep knowledge that have been accumulated through researches and advanced practical nursing skills.

Purpose of education

In a wide perspective, the graduate school aims to provide students with extensive knowledge, and cultivate the humanity of students. In addition, the school intends to train students’ research skills and a high level of expertise regarding nursing study.

Diploma policy (Policy on the approval of graduation and degree conferment)

According to its purpose of education, in a wide perspective, the graduate school aims to provide students with extensive knowledge, and cultivate the humanity of students. In addition, the school intends to train students’ research skills and a high level of expertise regarding nursing study. The school prepares curriculum to achieve these points. The students who completed required units are certified its completion of the course, and receive Master of Nursing Studies. At the time of completion, students are required to meet the following criteria:

Students are humane respecting the fundamental principles of the Red Cross.

They have basic skills to participate in education and research and contribute to the progress of nursing studies.

They have management, system structuring and human resource developing capabilities that are required to solve creatively issues when they provide nursing care.
4
When humanitarian support is needed, they can cooperate with people of various occupations from varied organizations.
5
They have the ability to comprehensively promote the cooperation and health in the community.

Curriculum policy (Policy on the compilation of curriculum)

Based on the fundamental principles of the Red Cross, especially humanity, the graduate school nurtures nursing specialists with advanced specialties and skills, including researchers and educators who have abilities to practice in the filed of nursing study, special nurses who completed maternity, pediatric and psychiatric nursing studies and nursing manager and leaders who have risk management skills against disaster, infection, etc.

The curriculum of the school consists of the following four domains and seven areas:

Nursing management study that gives priority to the development of nursing administrators and leaders who can handle issues including risk management

Clinical practical nursing study which focuses on the improvement of nursing related to perioperative nursing practice, which is significantly changing, how to cope with the society with declining birth rate and the perioperative issues, how to handle children and families with complicated problems, and the critical condition of mental issues in stressful modern society (four areas of adult acute stage, maternity, pediatric and psychiatric nursing studies)

Community health nursing study that mainly focuses on health issues and promotes health of people of all generations in the community.

Disaster nursing study that focuses on the health issues of each period of the disaster cycle

The following two courses are established to match with the goal of the students:

Researcher and educator course
This course improves specialty of the nursing domain/area for the development of research ability. There are four domains and seven areas of nursing management study, clinical practical nursing study (adult acute stage, maternity, pediatric and psychiatric nursing studies), community health nursing study and disaster nursing study.

Special nurse course (Certified Nurse Specialist: CNS)
This course is for students who aim to become special nurses with advanced expertise and skills There are three areas of maternity, pediatric and psychiatric nursing studies.
