Overview of Nursing Course, Department of Nursing

Our school develops nursing specialists who can be active in the areas of health, medical, welfare services and relief activities both in Japan and abroad.

Due to the arrival of the aged society with a low birth rate and the changes in disease structure, the roles that the areas of health, medical, welfare services have to play are becoming more complicated and advanced. Moreover, the places of activities are expanding beyond medical facilities to communities. To meet this type of new needs for nursing, at our college, the Department of Nursing offers practical training not only at medical facilities but also at local health and welfare facilities. In this way, students can use the issues that our local communities have as case studies.

In addition, we provide training for students to obtain fundamental capabilities that allow them to scientifically analyze, study and handle realistic issues in the area of health and medical services ranging from primary health care to highly specialized medical service, as well as the abilities that can be widely utilized for preventive medical service and advanced medical and nursing services and research.

Our target is to develop human resources that can, after four years of nursing education, take a leadership in the area of health, medical and welfare services in Japan and abroad, and contribute for nursing education and the progress of research in the future.


The interweaving style curriculum that integrates “intelligence” and “specialty”
We integrated each subject along with five main concepts instead of teaching each cultural, special basic, or special subject separately. Students can learn the specialty area of nursing study from a freshman. With the interweaving curriculum system, the weight of specialty course increases as the grade progresses.

Studying while nurturing humanity

The curriculum is compiled based on the concept of “human beings”, “environment”, “health”, “nursing” and “the Red Cross”.

People, who are the subject of nursing, are always interacting with the environment to make a living. To maintain, improve and recover their health, they are conducting various activities. “Nursing” and “The Red Cross” shall give influence over people and environment to create desirable healthy status for people.

The curriculum is structured based on these main principles.


outline_philosophy_nikennnav_en Human beings are the presence that has the mixture of biological, psychological, spiritual and social aspects. They live with unique belief, value and dignity. To comprehensively understand about a human being, students learn psychology, human development theory and the structure and functions of human body.
outline_philosophy_kakenav_en The environment is divided into internal environment (intravital environment) and external environment (natural and social environment).
Both environments significantly affect people’s health. To understand the environments, students learn studies including sociology, human engineering, information science and epidemiology.
outline_philosophy_kennkonav_en Health is a dynamic state of comprehensive functions of a human being, which repeats stability/instability and development/changes. Health is an individual matter to a person, and is something that a person should earn. To understand it, students are engaged in studies such as sports health science, epidemiology and treatment theories.
outline_philosophy_kannnav_en Nursing works on people and environment to maintain, promote and recover healthy condition and lead to the peaceful end of life. It is a group of subjects that nurture the abilities that are essential to nurses, and includes interpersonal skills with patients, special knowledge and skills to solve problems.

Students learn about the principles of the Red Cross, its activities and the Red Cross disaster nursing study as the basic of the activities.
